News line Effort Launched to Collect Data on Arts & Culture in Pennsylvania
Publication Date: September 01, 2004

The William Penn Foundation is proud to join with the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, and The Pew Charitable Trusts in launching the Pennsylvania Cultural Data Project (PACDP).  The collaborative project was created to strengthen arts and culture in Pennsylvania by documenting and disseminating information on the sector.

This statewide data collection effort for arts and culture was launched in September 2004, after three years of testing and development.  It was designed to collect comprehensive data on the cultural sector, while providing an easier process for applicants through the development of a standardized form for organizational data that will accompany grant requests to the partnering funders.  Applicants will only need to complete this form once each fiscal year.

In addition to creating a streamlined application process for the hundreds of arts and culture organizations throughout Pennsylvania, it is hoped that access to reliable data about the cultural sector will enhance both individual organizational capacity as well as the overall effectiveness of the nonprofit cultural community.

Training sessions on how to complete the PACDP will be offered during September and October.  Assistance will also be available through email, a help desk, and interactive training materials.  Information about these services will be posted regularly at PACDP.org.

Beginning in September 2004, the William Penn Foundation will require all applicants for funding under its Arts & Culture program to participate in the PACDP project.  Further guidelines on applying for a grant from the Foundation's Arts & Culture program can be found here.
