News line Early Childhood and the Well-Being of our Regional Economy
Publication Date: February 28, 2005

regional review Designed to jump-start regional dialogue and action, the Pennsylvania Economy League (PEL), in partnership with the William Penn Foundation, has devoted their Winter 2005 edition of the Greater Philadelphia Regional Review to an in-depth exploration of the connections between early childhood care and education, economic development, and the well-being of our regional economy.

Beginning with a comprehensive overview of the current early care system, the Regional Review presents a broad range of perspectives, including articles by experts like Art Rolnick and Rob Gruenwald of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, Steve Barnett of the National Institute for Early Education Research, Harriet Dichter of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and James Rohrer of PNC Financial Services Group.

Promoting good outcomes for our region's children through improvements in the quality of early care and education is a long-standing interest of the Foundation.  By partnering with PEL on this edition of the Regional Review, we hope to help demonstrate the economic benefits of ensuring that our youngest citizens are prepared to enter school ready to learn.

Copies of the issue are available for download through PEL's web site.
