News line Pollster Finds Surprising Depth of Concern for the Environment Among Philadelphians
Publication Date: May 22, 2006

In a new poll released today, an overwhelming majority of Philadelphians reported that environmental issues are a major concern likely to impact their voting behavior.

The poll, funded by the Foundation, was commissioned by Citizens for Pennsylvania's Future (PennFuture) and conducted by veteran Pennsylvania pollster G. Terry Madonna.

According to Madonna, “92 percent of Philadelphians believe that environmental and infrastructure improvements are necessary to improve the area's economic competitiveness and growth.”

On the eve of a mayoral campaign, the surprising results point to a greater-than-expected depth of concern and an understanding among Philadelphia residents that environmental issues impact the economy and their quality of life.
