Transatlantic Cities Forum: Re-Envisioning Philadelphia's Industrial Spaces

Transatlantic Cities Forum: Re-Envisioning Philadelphia's Industrial Spaces originated with the participation of Philadelphia in the Transatlantic Cities Network, a network of 23 U.S. and European cities established by the German Marshall Fund to foster exchange and dialogue on best practices and innovative policies. In 2013, the Philadelphia representative of the network, Shawn McCaney of the William Penn Foundation, pro¬posed a project to capitalize on the network’s expertise by hosting a workshop locally on the reuse of formerly industrial land, and specifically on how these spaces could be repurposed to better serve the community. Af¬ter a competitive application process, GMF selected the project for implementation in spring 2014, and planning began shortly thereafter.
